The Books I Read in November

1. Still Life - Louise Penny

This was the first book that Penny wrote in her Chief Inspector Armand Gamache series of “who-done-its.” While I found the writing fairly easy to follow, the story didn’t hold my attention as much as I had hoped it would. I give this book 3 stars.

2. Celebration of Discipline - Richard Foster

This was a re-read (probably over ten times now) of Richard Foster’s classic work. I first read this one back in the early 1990’s. It’s still in my top ten favorite non-fiction books of all time. Each time I read it, I’m encouraged and challenged all over again. I couldn’t recommend this book more. I give this book 5 stars.

3. In the Woods - Tana French

Continuing with the murder theme, I picked up Tana French’s first book in the Dublin Murder Squad series. Even though I liked this one more than Penny’s Still Life, I found the book longer than it needed to be. While I would probably read another book by French, I found this one to be merely “okay.” I give the book 3 stars.
